HONOLULU, Hawaii - Emily Anderson, Aglaya Kokurina and Sydney Lederhouse all earned singles wins Friday as the Gonzaga University women's tennis team fell 4-3 to San Jose State University in Honolulu, Hawaii.
With the loss, Gonzaga drops to 3-11 overall while San Jose State improves 4-6 for the season.
SJSU won the early point in doubles play taking two of three from the Zags. Emily Anderson and Kendall Bates fell at the No. 1 position to Ashley Tavita and Amber Silverstone 8-5. At the No. 2 spot, Sydney Lederhouse and Erin Humphrey defeated Silvana Dukic and Dana Popescu 8-3, while Carrie Schofield and Aglaya Kokurina fell to Coutrney Koenisfeld and Rokie Larijani 8-5.
Anderson earned a victory in singles with a three set win over Tavita at the top position (1-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (4)). At the No. 2 position, Kokurina downed Koenisfeld in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 1-0(5)). Lederhouse earned a point for Gonzaga with a win over Popescu at the No. 3 position (6-2, 6-2). At the No. 4 spot, Bates dropped a match in straight sets to Sliverstone (6-0, 6-1), while Schofield fell at No. 5 to Sanda Hadizisabic (6-4, 6-2). Rounding out singles play was Courtney Lau, who fell to Dukic (6-4, 6-2) at the No. 6 spot.
Gonzaga will hit the courts again March 24 when they face Boise State University in Seattle, Wash.
