Women's Tennis Gets Past Virginia Commonwealth, 5-2

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine Waves dropped the double's point but rallied back to win 5-of-6 single's matches to defeat the Virginia Commonwealth Rams 5-2 in non-conference action at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif.

Virginia Commonwealth earned the first point of the match when Marianna Yuferova and Olga Borisova downed Sylvia Kosakowski and Bianca Dulgheru 9-8 (8-6) at the No. 1 double's position and Vera Petrashevitch and Olena Leonchuk downed Eva Dickes and Anete Bandere 8-5 at No. 2. Pepperdine's No. 3 team of Jillian Braverman and Tania Rice prevented the sweep with an 8-4 victory.

Braverman evened the contest at 1-all defeating Petrashevitch in straight-sets 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Dickes gave Pepperdine its first lead of the day at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Maria Klokotzky.

Bandere upped the lead to 3-1 with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Viktoria Konstantinova at No. 4. Caroline Raba clinched the victory with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4, victory at No. 2.

Pepperdine will be back in action tomorrow morning when it takes on the New Mexico Lobos at 10 a.m. PDT in Malibu.
