Los Angeles, CA (March 17) - The Loyola Marymount University women's tennis team earned a 4-3 bounce back win over San Diego State on Saturday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center. The tightly fought contest revered the Lions fortunes from the previous day when they were on the wrong end of a one-point decision.
For the second straight match the Lions earned a win in doubles play as they earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, just as they had on Friday. Pavla Mesterova and Robyn Baker continued their solid play together with an 8-5 win. They have now won their last two matches together and are 6-3 on the season.
Senior Robyn Baker continues her hot play of late with her seventh straight win at No. 2 singles, taking the match 6-2, 6-3. She is now 9-6 overall on the season and 8-4 in dual matches.
Her match point broke a 2-2 tie. With a 1-0 lead after the doubles point, San Diego State evened the score with a win at No. 6 singles. LMU's Pavla Mesterova improved to 18-5 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. San Diego State then evened the score at two each with a win at No. 3 singles.
Senior Serena Fermin then gave the Lions the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
LMU will play Nevada on Thrusday, March 22 at 1:30 p.m. as the Lions continue their six-match homestand.
