Los Angeles, CA (March 22) -- The Loyola Marymount University women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 57 Nevada at the LMU Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon. It was the Lions' third straight 4-3 result and seventh of the season as they fall to 7-7 on the year.
Junior Pavla Mesterova improved to 19-5 on the season as she earned a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Maria Mizyuk at No. 1 singles. However, her win was not enough as Nevada swept the doubles and earned a split in singles play.
After the doubles win by Nevada, LMU evened the score in the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win by Elrien de Villiers at No. 5 singles. However, Nevada won the next three matches to go up 4-1 and claim the win.
In addition to de Villiers and Mesterova earning wins, senior Tamara Tanner claimed a 6-7, 7-3, 1-0 win in a third-set pro tiebreaker.
The Lions continue a stretch of three games in four days when they host Pacific at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
