Los Angeles, CA (March 24) - Loyola Marymount started their match against Pacific with a sweep at doubles and they cruised from there as they earned a 7-0 win at the LMU Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. In the match, junior Pavla Mesterova earned her 20th win on the season with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles.
Mesterova, who went 25-10 in her first season with the Lions a year ago, eclipsed the 20-win mark as she improves to 20-5 on the season overall and 12-2 in dual matches. She defeated Jolanta Twarowska in straight sets for her fourth straight win and ninth of her last 10.
At No. 1 doubles, Mesterova along with teammate Robyn Baker earned an 8-1 win over Twarowska and Sasha Fisher to start the match on the right foot for the Lions. LMU's top duo improves to 7-4 on the season.
Up 2-0 on the match after the doubles point and Mesterova's win to start singles, Elrien de Villiers made it 3-0 Lions with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Sasha Fisher at No. 5 singles. Freshman Bliss Nixon then claimed the win for LMU with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Clara Schuhmacher at No. 6 singles.
Baker then gutted out a 6-1, 7-6 win over Svenja Arenas at No. 2 singles and Serena Fermin earned a hard fought victory at No. 4 singles, defeating Carla Tambornin 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
Tanner then completed the Lions' sweep with a 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8) win in a third set pro tie breaker at No. 3 singles.
