A trio from the Gonzaga University women's tennis team earned singles victories Thursday as the Bulldogs downed Eastern Washington University 4-3 in Cheney, Wash.
The Zags improved to 4-14 with the victory while the Eagles fall to 6-13 for the season.
Aglaya Kokurina, Kendall Bates and Courtney Lau each earned points for Gonzaga in their respective matches, downing their opponents in straight sets. Kokurina defeated Iliana Petrova (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 2 position, while Bates posted a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Kerstyn Dolack at the No. 3 position. Lau rounded out singles victories for the Bulldogs with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Amanda Mankovits at the No. 5 position. Emily Anderson, Sydney Lederhouse and Carrie Schofield all fell in their respective singles matches.
In doubles play, Gonzaga earned the point taking the No. 2 and 3 matches. Bates and Anderson combined at No. 2 to defeat Sayaka Yoshimoto and Rachel Berger 8-3. Schofield and Lau teamed up at the No. 3 doubles position to defeat Mankovits and Marie Demerath 8-4. Falling 8-3 at the No. 1 position to Kasey Knox and Dolack of EWU was Humphrey and Lederhouse.
The Bulldogs will return to the courts next Thursday when they host Eastern Washington at 3 p.m.
