Women's Tennis Rallies Past No. 33 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas -

After taking the double's point from the No. 33-ranked Texas Longhorns, the Pepperdine Waves were forced to rally from a 3-2 deficit to hold off the upset bid at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center .

 

Pepperdine swept all three double's matches from Texas to gain the early advantage.

 

Vanja Corovic, ranked 40th, tied the match at 1-1 with a straight-set victory over Sylvia Kosakowski, 6-1, 6-0. Katia Sabate kept the Waves in front of the home team by downing Ristine Olson 6-2, 6-3 on court No. 3.

 

Stephanie Dawson locked the contest at 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Bianca Dulgheru at the No. 2 position and Jane Pringle provided Texas with its first lead of the day on court six with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Tania Rice.

 

Eva Dickes rallied back after dropping her first set to Shara Lancaster, 6-4, to sweep the final two sets 6-2, 6-4 and tied the match at 3-all as all eyes turned to court No. 5. Anete Bandere entered the match with a six-match win streak and continued to play well edging Marija Milic 7-6, 7-6 to clinch the match for Pepperdine.

 

The Waves will travel to Houston tomorrow for a 10 a.m. PDT first serve against the Rice Owls.
