Torero Women Drop Final Match of the 2006 Season

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team lost their final match of the 2006 season to the cross town rival San Diego State Aztecs by a score of 5-2. With the loss, USD remains at a solid 9-6 record to enter this weekend's West Coast Conference Championship Tournament.

In doubles, SDSU claimed the point to take the first point over the Toreros. The No. 44 ranked pair of Emma Murphy and Lauren Perl lost to Dita Haurlendova and Sisse Nielsen by a score of 8-1.

The singles ladder saw Torero victories in the top two spots. Emma Murphy, currently ranked 43rd in the nation, defeated No. 84 Hauerlandova of SDSU by scores of 6-0 and 7-5. This win marks Murphy's 11th in a row, with her last loss coming on February 5 at the hands of Sacramento State. Senior Jenny Brown took a three-set win over Alesya Vidov of San Diego State. Scores went 6-1, 3-6, and 6-4.

The Torero women head to Santa Clara, Calif. and Santa Clara University for the WCC Tournament. Matches begin Friday, April 21 and continue through the weekend. For tournament schedule, results, and updates, visit www.usdtoreros.com.
