Women's Tennis Advances

Malibu, CA (April 21) -- The 62nd-ranked Loyola Marymount women's tennis team earned a 4-2 win over Portland in the first round of the West Coast Conference Championships on Saturday morning in Malibu, CA. The match was a continuation of Friday due to the rain.

Senior Pavla Mesterova had already earned her win at No. 1 singles on Friday, leaving the match to the other five singles. The third-seeded Lions claimed wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles to advance to the WCC semifinals. LMU has advanced to the semifinals every year since the WCC championships began.

Serena Fermin earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4, while Elrien de Villiers earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5. Bliss Nixon earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

It will be a quick turn around for the Lions as they will play Saint Mary's in the semifinals today, Saturday, starting at 11:30 a.m.
