Quick Turnaround Ends in Setback

April 21, 2007

Malibu, CA (April 21) -- Playing in their second match in two hours, the Loyola Marymount women's tennis team finally ran out of gas as they fell to Saint Mary's in the semifinals of the 2007 West Coast Conference Championships on Saturday, 4-1.

The Lions, who had their first round match play into Saturday due to the rain, took care of the doubles point as Robyn Baker and Pavla Mesterova won at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. Serena Fermin and Elrien de Villiers then picked up the win at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point.

LMU's top guns of Mesterova and Baker at No. 1 and No. 2 singles never got to finish their match as Saint Mary's earned four singles points and No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6.

The Lions fall to 11-12 on the season and will play San Diego in the third place match on Sunday.
