The USF women's tennis team will face Santa Clara Sunday aftrenoon for fifth place after easily topping Gonzaga 4-0 in the WCC Championships in Malibu Saturday.
USF recovered from a tough 4-3 rain completed loss earlier in the day in strong fashion.
The Dons started off taking the singles point by sweeping all three matches.
USF then needed just three singles wins to take the match and they accomplished it with Mylene Martin winning 6-1, 6-0 at three, Jenny Sperry taking a 6-0, 6-2 decision at four and Joana Macedo winning 6-1, 6-2 at five. The rest of the matches were not completed.
"It was a long day of tennis," said Dons head coach Hilary Somers. "We fought back so hard to get even in the early match against San Diego to get it to the doubles point, where we fell. But this afternoon we took care of business and the team is up for another battle with Santa Clara Sunday."
