FRESNO, Calif. - For the sixth straight year the Pepperdine women's tennis team had its season come to an end in the second round of the NCAA Championship Tournament after falling to the Fresno State Bulldogs, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
Pepperdine (20-10) started the match on a high note as Bianca Dulgheru and Sylvia Kosakowski cruised to an 8-2 victory at the No. 1 doubles position. Fresno State (22-3) picked up an 8-2 victory on court 2 forcing court three's outcome to determine the double's point.
Jillian Braverman and Katia Sabate held serve to a 5-5 stalemate against Danon Beatty and Venessa Heroux but the Bulldog's duo finally broke the deadlock and took a 7-5 lead. The Wave tandem staved off defeat and tied the set at 7-all only to fall 9-7, giving the home team a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs went on to win the first set on four of six courts, including Jacqueline Haskett's come-from-behind 7-6 (7-4) victory after trailing Eva Dickes 5-3.
