CHENEY, Wash. - - Sophomore Kelly Bergen captured the singles second flight title Sunday as the Gonzaga University women's tennis team competed at the Red Lion Invitational hosted by Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash.
Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, University of Idaho, University of Montana, University of Portland and Lewis-Clark State College are all competing in the tournament.
Bergen captured the title with a victory over Eastern's Megan Smedley in straight sets (6-3, 6-4).
The only other Bulldogs competing Sunday was the doubles team of Sydney Lederhouse and Erin Humphrey. The duo fell in the semifinals of the doubles flight to Idaho's Mariel Tinnerello and Patricia Ruman, 8-3.
The Bulldogs will hit the courts again on Oct.5-7 at Montana's Fall Tournament in Missoula, Mont.
