Four members of the Gonzaga women's tennis teams won singles matches Friday on the first day of the University of Montana Invitational held in Missoula Montana.
The tournament features women's teams from the University Idaho, Montana State University -Billings, Gonzaga and Montana State University.
Kendall Bates, Kimberly Aigner, Emily Anderson, Sydney Lederhouse all earned victories in the first round of the tournament. Bates defeated Montana's Roney (6-3, 6-3) and Lederhouse earned a victory over Montana State's Souza (6-4. 6-4) in two sets to advance to the second round. Aigner defeated Montana's Martnya Nowak due to an injury and Anderson defeated Katy Proietti of Montana State (6-7(6), 7-6(4), 6-4) to earn slots in the second round.
In doubles play, three GU teams earned victories when the teams of Colton and Aigner, Anderson and Bates, and Humphrey and Lederhouse all earned victories on the first day of competition.
The Bulldogs will return to the courts Saturday for the second day of the tournament.
