MORAGA, Calif. - Aglaya Kokurina posted two wins in consolation play as the Gonzaga University women's tennis team wrapped up play Sunday at the Saint Mary's Classic in Moraga, Calif.
Schools participating in the tournament include Saint Mary's College, Gonzaga, Stanford University, University of California, Fresno State University, Loyola Marymount University, University of Portland, University of San Francisco, Santa Clara University, University of the Pacific, San Jose State University, UC Davis, Sonoma State University, Sacramento State University and the University of Nevada.
Kokurina posted two victories in consolation play during the final day of the rain shortened two-day event. In consolation play of the Blue Flight, Kokurina opened play with thanks to a three-set victory over UC Davis' Gruier. She fell in the first set but fought back to post a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6) win. Kokurina then posted another three-set victory over Cal's Dillion. Once again, she fought back from an early deficit to win 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (9). In the same flight, Emily Anderson earned a straight-set (6-4, 6-2) victory over Potrland's Griffin.
In consolation play of the red flight, Rika Mehndiratta and Kristen MacWilliam each earned victories in their respective matches. Mehndiratta posted a 6-1, 6-2 decision over San Jose State's Guzman, while MacWilliam earned a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8) victory over Oudomvilay of San Francisco.
In consolation play of the white flight, Carrie Schofield and Danielle Farmer fell in their matches. Schofield dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Davis' Shapiro, while Farmer fell 6-4, 6-3 to Pacific's Fisher.
In the main draw of doubles play, the Bulldog duo of MacWilliam and Schofield fell in a hard fought match against Davis's Phillips and Shapiro, 9-8 (7).
In consolation play of the doubles blue flight, Kokurina and Anderson dropped an 8-2 decision to Saint Mary's Hoath and Poorta. While, in consolation play of the red flight, Mehdiratta and Farmer posted an 8-6 decision over UC Davis' Rouhafza and Brady, before dropping an 8-5 decision to Bulkley and Nixon.
The Zags will conclude the fall season next weekend when they play in the ITA Regional at Stanford, Calif.
