STANFORD, Calif. - Aglaya Kokurina, of the Gonzaga University women's tennis team, posted a posted a victory in the round of 128 Friday as part of the ITA Regional at Stanford, Calif.
Kokurina earned the long Zag victory of the afternoon, thanks to a straight set victory over UC Davis' Legaspi (6-2, 6-3). Kokurina then advanced to the round of 64, dropping a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Cossou of the University of California in the round of 64.
Kristen MacWilliam, Rika Mehndiratta and Emily Anderson all competed in the round of 128, but were unable to advance to the round of 64. MacWilliam dropped a 6-2, 6-3 match to Santa Clara University's Pham, while Mehndiratta fell 6-2, 6-2 to Sacramento State's Lyssenko. Despite fight back from a 0-5 deficit in the first set, Anderson fell to Fresno State University's Paes, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles play, MacWilliam and Mehndiratta fell to the University of the Pacific's Nezhura and Schumacher, 8-1, while Kokurina and Anderson fell Saint Mary's College's CHarlot and Young, 8-5.
The three-day ITA event continues Saturday on the campus of Stanford University in Stanford, Calif.
