(San Diego, CA) - USD women's tennis coach, Sherri Stephens, is entering her 23rd season with the Torero program. The Toreros open their 2007 schedule with a preseason ranking of 57th, and her demanding schedule will put her squad up against 13 teams ranked in the top-75 of the Fila ITA Tennis Rankings. USD will open play this Sunday, Jan. 21st, with a 10:00 a.m. match at the USD West Tennis Courts against the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine. Out of their 20 dual matches scheduled prior to the WCC Championships in late April, USD will host 18 matches, including the 13 ranked teams. Following Sunday's match the Toreros will return to host CS Fullerton on Wednesday, January 24th (1 pm), and again on Saturday, January 27th against No. 11 Cal (11 am).
Stephens has a young club for the 2007 season with four of the six players underclassmen. The junior class includes third-year player Helene Lindstrand (Ljungskile, Sweden) and Monica Wiesener (Calabasas, CA). Back for their second year are sophomores Zoe Taylor (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) and Sophia Vogt (Aptos, CA). Two newcomers include freshmen Justine Perl (San Diego, CA) and Alexandra Demidova (Stockholm, Sweden).
