SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference women's tennis season has officially begun. Four of the nine teams are ranked in the ITA National Rankings, three of which are in the top 50.

This year will mark the first year the WCC women's tennis teams will compete in a single round robin. Pepperdine was chosen to finish first in the preseason coaches poll conducted last week, followed by Saint Mary's and San Diego.

  • Gonzaga opened its spring season with a 4-3 comeback win over Seattle. Trailing the Redhawks 2-0, the Bulldogs picked up four straight singles points for the victory.

  • No. 26 Pepperdine also strung together a come-from-behind 4-3 victory to defeat No. 53 San Diego State in the season opener. Freshman Lorraine Guillermo clinched the win for the Waves with a three-set triumph in her dual-season debut.

  • After a tough loss against No. 7 California, No. 71 Santa Clara picked up two solid victories over the weekend. The Broncos swept San Jose State and pulled out a tough match against Oregon, 4-3.

  • No. 41 Saint Mary's upset No. 25 Oklahoma, topping the Sooners 4-3. Transfer No. 116 Jade Frampton pulled out a third set tiebreaker to give the Gaels the victory.

  • No. 32 San Diego defeated No. 36 UNLV 6-1 in the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Toreros bounced back from Friday's season-opening loss to Washington by capturing the doubles point and five of the six singles matches.

  • Pepperdine tallied 59 points and four first place votes in the preseason coaches poll, narrowly edging Saint Mary's, which garnered 57 points and three first place votes. The remaining two first place votes went to San Diego, which took third in this year's preseason standings.
