With all the rain we have been having, I am sure tennis is the first thing to come to your mind. Well, the Lady Dons have officially been rained out of practice for 5 days straight. We are becoming professional mini tennis players with foam balls and portable nets on the gym floor. We might be inviting our opponents to play us in this new format. :-) We are being patient and getting very fit while we wait out the rain. I can tell you, we will not lose a match due to lack of fitness.
Against University of the Pacific - Although we were unable to practice during the week, we did get enough dry time on Sunday to roll the courts dry and play our match at UOP. Camille and Mylene came out very strong at #1 doubles taking the win. However, our #2 team of Sperry and Taylor fell just short as did our 3rd doubles team of the Hickey Twins. We came out fired up for the singles. Sperry had the match of the day at #4 singles as she beat her opponent 6-4, 6-2 in the smartest match she has played in her career. She came out with a solid game plan and patiently executed it the entire match. Oudomvilay cruised at the #5 position 6-1,6-2 and was really kicking herself for giving up that second game in the second set before closing out the match. Emma gained a lot of confidence at the #2 position getting her game in the groove, but fell just short in two close sets, 6-3, 6-4. Mylene Martin lost in 3 close sets in a hard fought match at #3. With Joana Macedo out sick, Lauren Hickey made her first singles debut at #6 and competed very strong falling a bit short, with a score of 6-3, 6-3. We fell short 5-2 to the Tigers. It was a tough one to lose, but we played stronger than we did in the previous matches so we are improving with each match so far.
It felt good to get a match in, heck, to get any tennis in, especially since conference matches start up next week. We are looking forward to a week of drier weather to prepare for the Zags next Sunday.
Fans? Amazing support from the Hickey family and the Sperry family to come over to Stockton. The Valentine's Day cookies were a major hit with the team. Surprise, surprise.

The University of San Francisco Women's Tennis Team set up a table at the USF vs Pepperdine men's basketball game Saturday night selling tennis equipment, passing out match schedules, doing a tennis promotion during a timeout, and throwing up water bottles in the crowd with schedules attached. We made over $660 on the evening. Hopefully we won't be hearing "oh, we didn't even know USF had a tennis team" for long. The word is getting out on the street.
USF Athletics has a commercial. This is BIG TIME!
This is the link to the new USF commercial "Postcards." It is also connected to the USFDons.com website .
Check it out! It is very cool.
