SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announces its women’s tennis weekly honors for singles and doubles competition for February 11, 2014.

WOMEN’S TENNIS SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LORRAINE GUILLERMO, JR., PEPPERDINE
Junior Lorraine Guillermo helped lift #39 Pepperdine to two home victories this week. The Waves first topped #60 UNLV 6-1 before issuing #25 Arizona State a 6-1 loss. It was just the Sun Devils’ second loss on the year and first against a team ranked further down in the top-75.

Guillermo, listed at #23 in the ITA singles rankings, won twice from the No. 1 spot in the lineup. She first faced Rebel ace Lucia Batta. With a singles ranking of #36, Batta is the highest ranked player Guillermo has faced in dual action to date in 2014. Guillermo proved up to the challenge and disposed of Batta 6-1, 6-4. The very next day, the Waves took on ASU. Guillermo once again emerged victorious, downing #73 Stephanie Vlad 2-6, 6-3, 10-1. Guillermo and the Waves bring a four-match win streak into Wednesday’s dual at #3 UCLA.

WOMEN’S TENNIS DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK
MATEA CUTURA, SO./ ALE GRANILLO, SR. – PEPPERDINE
Despite standing a foot apart, 6-foot-0 Matea Cutura and 5-foot-0 Ale Granillo make for a solid doubles pair. The duo produced two wins together this weekend, helping #39 Pepperdine defeat both #60 UNLV and #25 Arizona State. Cutura and Granillo put the first match away for the Waves versus the Rebels, logging an 8-1 decision against  Iren Kotseva and Paola Artiga. The Wave tandem then clinched the doubles point vs. ASU in a must-win situation.

After battling for every hold of serve, Cutura and Granillo finally got the break they needed while playing Stephanie Vlad and Ebony Panoho to take a 4-2 lead. The Waves rode the momentum to an 8-4 victory to secure the doubles point for Pepperdine. Cutura and Granillo are now defending a four-match win streak as they travel to UCLA on Wednesday.
