WCC Women's Tennis Continues Non-Conference Play

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference women's tennis season is in its fifth week of non-conference play. Three of the nine women's teams are ranked in the latest ITA rankings.


  • After three losses on the road, No. 29 Pepperdine turned things around with a road win over No. 58 UC Irvine, 4-3. Although the Waves dropped the doubles point, the team won four straight-set singles victories to clinch the dual.

  • After wins over Florida International and No. 68 UC Davis, the Broncos extended its three-match win streak with a 7-0 sweep over No. 65 UC Santa Barbara at home.

  • Gonzaga defeated Eastern Washington, 5-2, to extend its win streak over the Eagles to eight matches.

  • No. 35 San Diego has dropped three of its last four match- es in narrow 4-3 defeats. The Toreros hosted No. 26 South Carolina and No. 72 LSU and lost 5-2 and 4-3, respectively. In the loss to LSU, the Toreros dropped the doubles point but tied it up at 3-3 with wins at the No. 2, 3 and 5 positions. The match came down to the No. 4 matchup where USD's Marite Raygada lost in three close sets, 4-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5).

  • No. 36 Saint Mary's dropped a 6-1 match to No. 1 Stanford. The lone win came at the No. 6 position as sophomore Carla Lindlar dominated her opponent, 6-1, 6-2.

  • USF has dropped its last four matches. The last two were close 4-3 losses to San Jose State and UC Santa Barbara.

  • Loyola Marymount is still in search of its first win in non- conference play. The Lions suffered a tough 7-0 loss in its most recent match against No. 26 South Carolina.
