SAN BRUNO, Calif.-Pepperdine University senior Lorraine Guillermo has been named the West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week, while doubles teammates Christine Maddox and Matea Cutura earn the doubles weekly honor in the sport of women's tennis, the league announced Tuesday.
Last week, Guillermo led No. 30 Pepperdine to a 4-1 upset win over No. 17 Texas Christian University. The Waves dropped the doubles point (1-2) before clinching the singles section en route to its best performance thus far on the season. Pepperdine gave up 13 games total across the six singles matches, led by Guillermo's 6-2, 6-0 victory over No. 76 Stefanie Tan.
Currently ranked No. 41, Guillermo owns an 18-4 overall mark, including 4-1 in dual play. Pepperdine's win over the Frogs marked their first win over a top-20 opponent this season.
A native of Walnut, Calif., Guillermo is the second Pepperdine player to claim the weekly accolade.
In the same contest as Guillermo, Pepperdine's Christine Maddox and Matea Cutura won in their first-ever doubles match together, downing Alexis Pereira and Palina Dubavets by a 6-3 tally last Monday. It was Maddox's team-best third doubles win of the dual season, while it was Cutura's first.
