SAN BRUNO, Calif.-PUniversity of the Pacific senior Hana Ritterova has been named the West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week, while Ritterova and senior Iveta Masarova earn the doubles weekly honor in the sport of women's tennis, the league announced Thursday.
In two victories last week against WCC league mate No. 38 BYU and Big West member Cal Poly, Ritterova and Massarova combined for a 2-0 record at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.
In the Tigers' 4-3 win over the Cougars on Saturday, Ritterova was one of two Pacific players to be involved in two victories. She teamed with Iveta Masarova for a 6-1 win in doubles play over Toby Miclat and Brittanie Eraso, and then edged Nicolette Tran 7-6 (5), 6-3 in singles action. Behind Ritterova's performance, Pacific was able to squeak out the 4-3 victory over BYU. One day later, Pacific followed that performance by meeting Cal Poly, in doubles action the Tigers claimed the point with Ritterova and Masarova outlasting Mustangs' Danè Joubert and sophomore Louise Oxnevad (6-4) at No. 1. The Ricany, Czech Republic, native then delivered her final victory of the weekend with a 6-0, 6-0 result over Molly Reed, triggering a sweep for the Pacific in singles action against the Mustangs.
This week's honor is a first for both Riterrova and Masarova.
