SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference women's tennis season is in its eighth week of non-conference play. Beginning on Thursday, March 22, all nine teams will compete in a conference single round robin schedule.
After a 6-1 win over conference opponent USF, the No. 51 Santa Clara women's tennis team lost a tight match at Fresno State by a score of 4-3. The Broncos won the top three singles matches but lost the bottom three and the doubles point.
After a 5-2 loss to Arizona, the Gaels have come back to sweep USF at home and Pacific on the road. Saint Mary's won all its doubles matches by a score of 8-2 against the Tigers and took all the singles matches in straight sets.
Gonzaga opened up its spring break trip in Palm Springs, Calif. with a 5-2 win over Fairfield. The Bulldogs have won four straight matches and improve their record to 6-2.
Although Pepperdine lost 7-0 to No. 1-ranked UCLA, freshman Lorraine Guillermo and senior Khunpak Issara downed the No. 14-ranked Robin Anderson and Skylar Morton, 8-4. It was the Wave duo's first win over a ranked opponent this season.
San Diego defeated No. 55 Sacramento State, 5-2, for its second straight win. Sophomore Anna Depenau and senior Maja Sujica won at No. 2 doubles, improving their spring record to a perfect 8-0.
After splitting matches with a 4-3 win over No. 75 SMU and a tough 5-2 loss to University of Texas Arlington, the BYU Cougars topped Boise State, 5-2. BYU won four straight matches in singles competition, capturing the match win.
