WCC Women's Tennis Looks Ahead To Busy Month

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- With a little over a month left until the 2013 WCC Tennis Championships, Conference play has heated up, with Saint Mary's (3-0) and Santa Clara (1-0) atop the Conference standings.

WCC QUICK HITS

  • Saint Mary's is currently the only ranked team in the Conference, earning a No. 45 ranking from the ITA earlier this week. The Gaels added another Conference victory, with a 6-1 win over San Francisco on March 10. Jenny Julien continues to pace the Gaels in singles, winning her last three matches in straight sets and earning a No. 18 ITA singles ranking.

  • Gonzaga continues to pile up wins in the month of March, having amassed a 4-1 record with victories over Robert Morris, Eastern Washington, Northern Colorado and Lewis-Clark State. Freshman Samantha Polayes is currently on a four match singles win streak and is 8-1 overall in her last nine matches.

  • Portland has compiled a 2-2 record in the last two weeks, including a 6-1 win over Conference rival Gonzaga. The Pilots swept the doubles session, before winning five of six singles matches, including a thrilling three set victory by freshman Maja Mladenovic at the No. 1 singles position.

  • Santa Clara is currently riding a three match win streak, including a 4-3 Conference win over Bay Area rival San Francisco on March 3. The Broncos defeated Pacific, 7-0, one day prior. Broncos ace and No. 32 ranked ITA singles player Katie Le is 7-4 on the season, including a 3-1 record in the last four matches.

  • Other WCC faces appearing in the ITA singles rankings include No. 54 Lorraine Guillermo (PEP), No. 56 Khunpak Issara (PEP), No. 76 Andrea Ka (USF), No. 87 Laura Claus (USD), and No. 110 Ale Granillo (PEP). Two WCC teams are also ranked in doubles.
