Saint Mary's Sweeps WCC Weekly Women's Tennis Awards

SAN BRUNO, Calif.-Saint Mary's College senior Danielle Flores has been named the West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week, while doubles teammates Jamie Pawid and Kareena Manji earn the doubles weekly honor in the sport of women's tennis, the league announced Tuesday.

Flores, Pawid and Manji guided the No. 45 Gaels to a 2-0 league mark with wins against No. 50 BYU (4-3) and Pacific (6-1) last week. Against the Cougars on March 20, No. 70 Flores helped her team to 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Meghan Sheehan-Dizon at No. 1 singles after suffering a 7-6 loss with partner Mary-Anne Jessup to Nicholette Tran and Savannah Ware in the No 2 doubles flight. On the following day, she cruised to a 6-2 doubles outing, before posting a 7-6, 6-3 win over Iveta Masarova. Flores own a 7-8 season mark, sports a 6-7 dual record, 2-0 league standing, and is enjoying a three match win streak after going 5-5 in her last 10 matches. The San Diego, Calif., native collects her second weekly career WCC honor, she last earned the honor March 19, 2014.

Junior Pawid and freshman Manji opened league play with a 2-0 mark as they won both their matches to start the WCC season. The duo picked up Saint Mary's lone doubles win against BYU, beating Meghan Sheehan-Dizon and Morgan Anderson 6-4 at the No. 3 slot. One day later, Pawid and Manji clinched the doubles point for the Gaels by beating Pacific's Regina Suarez and Antonella Santeusanio 6-4, 6-3. With the wins, Pawid and Manji improved to 7-3 on the season. This week's honor marks the first time the duo have garnered a WCC weekly honor.
