Malibu, Calif. - The No. 8 Pepperdine women's tennis team faces its toughest challenge yet when it goes up against No. 1 Stanford on Wednesday, March 29 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. The first serve is set for 12:30 p.m.
The Waves, who are ranked in the Top 10 for the second week in a row, are 14-2 on the season. The Cardinal has held the top ranking all season and is 16-0 coming into the match. Stanford, who captured title of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships earlier this season, extended its win streak to 72 after sweeping Cal Poly, 7-0.
Leading Stanford with a No. 5 ranking is senior Alice Barnes, who is followed by No. 6 junior Theresa Logar. Junior Anne Yelsey is ranked at No. 13, while senior Amber Liu rounds out the Top 20 with a ranking of 15. Sophomores Celia Durkin and Whitney Deason check in at No. 31 and 41, respectively. The Cardinal also boasts the No. 1 doubles team in Barnes and Yelsey.
Sophomore Bianca Dulgheru leads the Waves with a No. 27 ranking in singles and pairs up with junior Eva Dickes for a No. 25 ranking in doubles. Senior Merve Asimgil and sophomore Sylvia Kosakowski top the doubles rankings for Pepperdine at No. 22.
