WCC Women's Tennis Announces Weekly Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announces its women’s tennis weekly honors for singles and doubles competition for April 1, 2014. 

WOMEN’S TENNIS SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LORRAINE GUILLERMO, JR., PEPPERDINE
Junior Lorraine Guillermo tallied two straight-set singles wins last week, leading the Pepperdine women’s tennis team to dual victories over San Diego and BYU. The Waves’ ace, currently ranked #25 in the ITA singles rankings, defeated the Toreros’ Marta Stojanovic 6-2, 6-1, before downing the Cougars’ Mayci Jones 6-3, 6-1. BYU entered the match with a 4-0 WCC record after upsetting preseason favorite Saint Mary’s the week before. The Waves, also undefeated in WCC matches, took sole possession of first place with Saturday’s victory. Guillermo now boasts an 11-3 record from her No. 1 spot in the lineup, and is 24-8 overall this season.

WOMEN’S TENNIS DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK
LORRAINE GUILLERMO, JR./APICHAYA RUNGLERDKRIANGKRAI, FR. – PEPPERDINE
Lorraine Guillermo and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai improved to a perfect 5-0 in dual play after posting two victories last week at home against San Diego and BYU.  The duo first defeated Shani Blecher and Marta Stojanovic handily, 8-3, to clinch the doubles point for the Waves last Friday. The following day, Guillermo and Runglerdkriangkrai won their fifth straight with an 8-5 triumph over Mayci Jones and Toby Miclat. To date, Guillermo and Runglerdkriangkrai are the only pair to win at No. 1 for the Waves this season. In addition to being a perfect 5-0 in dual action, the pair boasts a 7-1 overall record.
