Women's Tennis Update

April 3, 2007

Pure adrenaline...I think we could have charged for tickets at this match. It was a 4.5 hour battle with Santa Clara. USF won the doubles point as our #3 duo of Taylor and Lauren Hickey secured a nail biter 8-6 and the #2 doubles team of Sperry and Macedo put on an impressive performance at #2 to win 8-4. In singles, Macedo at #4 and Martin at #3 came up with solid wins early on to give us the 3-0 lead. Then the next three matches off the court went to Santa Clara, tying the overall match at 3-3. This is when the stress really set in. It all came down to a third set at #1 singles and no other than senior, Camille Pamart. She won the first set 6-1, lost the second 6-3, and then convincingly won the third 6-2. Her focus and competitiveness were admirable. This was the first time the Dons have beat Santa Clara at home and only the second time we have beaten them in the last seven years. Thanks to all of our wonderful fans for coming out on Sunday. I know I promised great weather and it was windy and cold. Family, friends, alumni, boosters, homeless park fans... you were all troopers and you played a big role in our victory. Thank you. I could tell you had all been practicing your "Go Dons" cheer all week. Our last home match of the season is Thursday at GG Park against UC Davis at 2pm. We will be honoring our four seniors at the start of the match- Joana Macedo, Camille Pamart, Lauren and Kelly Hickey. I think it will be a nice day. :-)
