San Bruno, CA - The West Coast Conference announced its Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Month earlier today. Freshmen Femke Strijbis (Maasdyk, Holland) and Nienke Strijbis (Maasdyk, Holland) were named the West Coast Conference Team of the Month after going 6-1 in March.
The twin sisters finished the month with a 6-1 doubles record, playing solely at the No. 2 doubles spot. In the six matches that Femke and Nienke won, they did not give up more than three games. Their one loss came to No.40 ranked Penn in a close 8-6 match. They posted a 5-0 record against WCC opponents during the month.
"This is a great honor for Femke and Nienke" said Head Coach Lisa Alipaz. "The two have played tough doubles all year and are very deserving of this honor." Alipaz went to note that "a great part of our success this season has been our doubles play; Femke and Nienke have been a big part of that." The Gaels have won the doubles point in all but one match through February and March.
This is the first WCC honor for the two freshmen. However, the pair was nationally ranked as a doubles team earlier in the season. The Strijbis sisters currently have a 10-2 doubles record on the season.
This marks the second straight month that the Gaels have been represented in the Player of the Month honors. Senior Aude Lambert was named the singles player of the month for February. Last season, Lambert and Jessica Hoath were named Doubles Team of the Month for May.
