Key WCC Women's Tennis Matches Looming

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- With the WCC Tennis Championships quickly approaching, key Conference match-ups are taking place this weekend as San Francisco hosts San Diego, and Santa Clara takes on Saint Mary's and San Diego.

WCC QUICK HITS

  • Saint Mary's is currently the highest ranked team in the Conference, earning a No. 40 ranking from the ITA earlier this week. The Gaels are joined by No. 53 San Diego, No. 67 San Francisco, a newcomer to the rankings, and No. 73 Loyola Marymount.

  • Saint Mary's continues to find itself atop the Conference standings after a pair of victories last week over San Diego and BYU. The Gaels are currently a perfect 5-0 in WCC play, while top singles player Jenny Jullien is also undefeated in all WCC matches thus far.

  • San Francisco is 5-1 in its last six matches, including wins over BYU and Loyola Marymount. The Dons debuted at No. 67 in this week's ITA rankings, led by the strong play of freshmen Sofia Holmberg and Andrea Ka, who were 4-2 and 5-1, respectively, in singles play during that stretch.

  • San Diego has also turned a corner in its last seven matches with a 5-2 mark. The Toreros are 3-1 in Conference play with their only loss coming to top-ranked Saint Mary's. Anna Depenau has proved to be a consistent player for the Toreros, with a 5-2 singles record in the last seven matches, while Shani Belcher also sports a 4-1 singles record in the same span.

  • WCC players appearing in the ITA singles rankings include No. 17 Jullien (SMC), No. 28 Katie Le (SCU), No. 40 Lorraine Guillermo (PEP), No. 58 Khunpak Issara (PEP), No. 78 Ka (USF), and No. 108 Laura Claus (USD).
