Malibu, Calif. - Pepperdine men's tennis players Scott Doerner and Andre Begemann and women's tennis player Bianca Dulgheru were named West Coast Conference (WCC) Players of the Month for their respective sports, the conference announced Wednesday morning.
Doerner earned his second straight WCC Player of the Month honor after leading No. 2 ranked Pepperdine to a perfect 8-0 record in dual matches during the month of March. The native of Melbourne, Australia posted a 6-2 record during the month, while playing at the No. 1 singles spot for the Waves. The senior went 5-2 against ranked opponents, highlighted by wins over then-No. 5 ranked Lars Poerschke of Baylor and then-No. 10 ranked Todd Paul of Wake Forest. Doerner is currently the highest ranked WCC singles competitor at No. 6 in the ITA national rankings.
Doerner teams up with sophomore Andre Begemann to earn honors as the WCC doubles team of the month. The Wave duo climbed to the No. 1 ranking on March 7 and went on to post a perfect 8-0 record during the month of March, moving to 20-1 overall. The duo posted a 5-0 record against nationally ranked opponents and remained at the top of the ITA doubles rankings for the entire month.
Sophomore Bianca Dulgheru earned WCC Player of the Month after posting a nearly perfect month of March in singles competition. Dulgheru, who was named the 2005 WCC Freshman of the Year, registered an 8-1 mark during March, logging wins in her last six matches at the No. 1 singles position. The native of Bucharest, Romania went 5-1 against ranked opponents, including wins over then-No. 15 ranked Amber Liu of Stanford and then-No. 12 ranked Zuzana Zemenova of Baylor. Dulgheru is currently the highest ranked WCC singles competitor at No. 25 in the ITA rankings.
