WCC announces weekly women's tennis honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference announces its women's tennis weekly honors for singles and doubles competition for April 16, 2014.

WOMEN'S TENNIS SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ANDREA KA, SO., SAN FRANCISCO

San Francisco sophomore Andrea Ka is the West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week. Tuesday, she took down San Diego's Shani Blecher, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, to open the week for USF. The following day, Ka battled No. 44 Laura Antonana Iriarte of San Diego State and earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over the ranked foe as USF posted a 4-3 win against the Aztecs.

In USF's last home stand of the season, Ka defeated Portland's top player, Maja Mladenovic, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2, Friday. Ka and the Dons then notched their sixth sweep of the season, knocking off the visiting Gonzaga Bulldogs in resounding fashion. Ka's singles point came in a 6-0, 6-1 takedown of Kylie Peek. Playing with partner Marina Nikolic in doubles action, Ka went a combined 7-0 on the week for USF. She now stands at 15-4 in the spring, and has notched an overall record of 18-9 for the Dons in singles play this season.

WOMEN'S TENNIS DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK
ANNA DEPENAU/COLOMBA DiFILLIPPO, SAN DIEGO

Senior captain Anna Depenau and freshman Colomba DiFilippo, who play No. 2 doubles for the University of San Diego, have turned in a strong season thus far. The duo has won their last seven matches, are 5-1 in conference, and have an overall record of 8-4. They are normally the first off the court, giving the Toreros the opportunity to clinch at the No. 1 and 3 spots. This week the tandem defeated USF's Thyra Taune and Sofia Holmberg 8-6, while cruising past BYU's Nicolette Tran and Savannah Ware 8-4.
