WCC Play Coming to a Close as Championship Nears

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- With the WCC Tennis Championships next week in San Diego, Calif., all Conference play will conclude this weekend and final Championship seeds will be determined on Saturday evening.

WCC QUICK HITS

  • With victories over Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount last weekend, Saint Mary's clinched at least a share of the 2013 WCC regular season Championship. The Gaels finished Conference play with a 7-1 mark, with their only loss coming in close fashion, 4-3, to Santa Clara.

  • With two wins each this week, Santa Clara and Pepperdine will also clinch a share of the 2013 WCC regular season title. Santa Clara faces Gonzaga and Portland on Friday and Saturday, while Pepperdine visits Loyola Marymount today, and BYU on Friday.

  • San Diego has secured fourth place in Conference standings following a 1-1 weekend against Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine. The Toreros will face the #9 seed in a first round matchup at next week's WCC Tennis Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.

  • Four WCC tennis teams were among the nation's top 75 teams in this week's ITA rankings. Saint Mary's continues to pace the Conference with a No. 40 ranking, followed by No. 54 San Diego, No. 58 Santa Clara and No. 71 Pepperdine.

  • Conference play concludes this weekend with a host of key matchups that will determine the final seeds for the WCC Championships. The Championships will begin on Wednesday, April 24 with three opening round matches. The No. 3 seed will receive a first round bye, while the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will receive byes into the semifinals. The Championship match will take place on Saturday, April 27 at 9:30 a.m.
