Women's Tennis Set to Host WCC Championships

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine Waves women's tennis team will play host to the 2007 West Coast Conference (WCC) Championship Tournament starting Friday morning at 9 a.m. when the top-seeded Waves take on the No. 8 seed Gonzaga Bulldogs at the Ralph Straus Tennis Center.

Pepperdine has claimed 18 of the WCC's 20 women's tennis team titles, including a streak of four straight dating back to 2002. The Waves have lost just once since the conference went to its current dual match format in 1995, and has won 15 straight matches since falling to Loyola Marymount in the 2002 championship match.

Saint Mary's, the tournament's No. 2 seed is slated to face Santa Clara in the second match of the day, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and will be followed in two-hour intervals by Loyola Marymount against Portland and San Francisco against San Diego.

This weekend's tournament is scheduled to run thought Sunday's championship match at 3 p.m.
