Rain Delays First Round With Lions Up

April 20, 2007

Malibu, CA (April 20) - Rain in the Southern California area really made a mess of the 2007 West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship on opening day Friday, as the Lions match was moved back and ended up being halted with LMU leading Portland 1-0 at Pepperdine.

The Lions senior Pavla Mesterova improved to 26-6 on the season with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. That was the only match to be concluded as inclement weather forced the match to be delayed in its start and pushed it past darkness.

Roby Baker is down in the third set 2-1 at No. 2 singles while Tamara Tanner was starting the third set up 1-0. Serena Fermin won the first set 6-2 and leads the second 5-2. Elrien de Villiers won the first set 6-4 and leads the second 5-4. Bliss Nixon started her match with a 5-2 lead in the first.

Doubles will be played only if the match is tied 3-3 after singles play.

The winner will face No. 2 Saint Mary's, who won 4-0 on Friday to advance, one and a half hours after the conclusion of the match.
