MALIBU, Calif. - Rain suspended play on the first day of the West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship held on the campus of Pepperdine University.
After waiting out the weather for six hours Friday, the Pepperdine Waves women's tennis team needed just over one hour to advance to the second round of the West Coast Conference (WCC) women's tennis championship as they handed the No. 8 seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs a 4-0 loss at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center.
The Saint Mary's women's tennis team entered the conference tourney with a seeding of No. 2 and took on the No. 7 seeded Santa Clara Broncos. The Gaels defeated the Broncos by a score of 4-0. Saint Mary's has not given up a single point to the Broncos in three matches this season.
Pepperdine and Saint Mary's will have to wait until tomorrow to learn who their next opponents will be as the San Francisco vs. San Diego and the LMU vs. Portland matches were halted due to rain with. San Diego was leading 3-1, while LMU was up 1-0.
