SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Four West Coast Conference women's tennis teams were in action today in the second round of 2012 WCC Tennis Championships, presented by the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego. After over three hours of play, No. 3 seed San Diego and No. 5 seed Santa Clara captured victories to punch in their spots in Friday's semifinal round.
San Diego defeated No. 6 seed BYU, 4-1, after clinching the doubles point and the No. 1, 3 and 6 singles matches. Junior Laura Claus posted a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory to capture the Torero win. Santa Clara topped No. 4 seed Loyola Marymount with a 4-0 sweep by taking the doubles point and three singles matches at the No. 1, 4 and 5 positions in straight sets. Junior Jessica Agra nabbed the fourth point for the Broncos, winning her match, 6-3, 6-3. For scores of the women's second round's completed matches, click here .
Friday's semifinal matchups will include No. 1 seed Pepperdine against Santa Clara and No. 2 seed Saint Mary's facing San Diego. Pepperdine returns as the reigning WCC champion, while Saint Mary's hopes to take back its crown after garnering its only WCC championship in 2010. San Diego and Santa Clara look to win their first conference title in program history.
