SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- In the 2012 West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championships, No. 3 seed San Diego upset No. 1 seed Pepperdine at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego for its first ever WCC title in program history. The Toreros defeated the reigning champion Waves by a score of 4-2.

After splitting the first two doubles matches, Pepperdine clinched the doubles point with a win on court three as the sophomore pair of Megan Moore and Ale Granillo defeated juniors Stephanie Hoffpauir and Cara Brown, 8-5, to go up 1-0. Singles play proved just as tight, and after two hours of play, the match was tied at 2-2 with action left on courts one, two and three. After a third point captured by San Diego junior Laura Claus on court three in a split set decision, it was senior Juliette Coupez that secured the match victory for the Toreros with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win on court one over redshirt senior Khunpak Issara.

With the win, the Toreros will take the automatic bid into the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships, while Pepperdine will anxiously await its postseason fate. For more information on the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships, click here .
