SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference announced its 2013 All-WCC Women's Tennis Team and postseason award winners, as voted on by the conference coaches on Tuesday, April 30.
Saint Mary's junior Jenny Jullien was named the WCC Player of the Year after ending the regular season with a 15-6 record at the No. 1 singles position. Jullien was a three-time WCC Singles Player of the Month, earning the honor in January, February and March of this year. Jullien is ranked as the No. 23 player in the country, as of the April 23 ITA ranking, and will find out this afternoon if she is selected to compete in the NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Championships.
San Francisco freshman Andrea Ka, who arrived to the City by the Bay courtesy of Paris, France, garnered WCC Freshman of the Year honors after leading the Dons to their first ITA team ranking in program history and an 18-5 record at No. 1 singles. Ka finished 5-3 in WCC regular season play, and posted a 2-0 singles record at the 2013 WCC Championships.
Pepperdine Head Coach Gualberto Escudero and Santa Clara Head Coach Ben Cabell have been named WCC Co-Coaches of the Year after leading each of their programs to a share of the 2013 WCC Regular Season Title. Both teams finished with a 7-1 regular season record. The Waves were 12-11 overall, including a WCC Championship Title, while the Broncos finished with a 12-10 record. The Waves take on Rice in first round NCAA Championship action next week, while the Broncos finish the season with an ITA ranking of No. 63 (as of April 23).
The 2013 All-Conference teams were selected based on overall season performance, including play at the recent WCC Championships. A full list of All-WCC First and Second Team members in singles and doubles, including honorable mention can be found below.
