West Coast Conference Announces 2012 Women's Tennis All-Conference Team

May 2, 2012

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference announced its 2012 All-WCC Women's Tennis Team and postseason award winners, as voted on by the conference coaches on Monday, April 30.

Santa Clara sophomore Katie Le was named the WCC Player of the Year after ending the regular season with an 18-5 record at the No. 1 singles spot. Le was also named WCC Player of the Month in March after stringing together a 10-match winning streak during that month. Le was ranked No. 49 in the country, as of April 24, and currently awaits her fate in the NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Tournament.

Freshman Lorraine Guillermo, who came to Pepperdine from Rowland High School in California as one of the top recruits in Southern California, garnered WCC Freshman of the Year honors after going 7-1 in conference play and 13-7 in dual competition at the No. 2 singles position. Guillermo ended the regular season on a strong note, winning nine of her last 10 matches.

San Diego head coach Sherri Stephens was selected as the WCC Coach of the Year after leading her Toreros to their first ever West Coast Conference title in program history. Aside from putting together a 13-9 overall record, the Toreros defeated reigning WCC Champion Pepperdine in the WCC final by a score of 4-2 to take home this year's conference crown and the automatic bid to make it San Diego's second straight appearance in the NCAA tournament.

The 2012 all-conference first team was selected by the conference coaches, based on overall season performance. All-WCC Second Team members were chosen based on the same criteria, plus performance at the recent WCC Championships.
