SAN BRUNO, Calif. - San Diego senior Emma Murphy, a native of Cork, Ireland, was named the West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Month for the month of April, it was announced Wednesday. This marks the second time that Murphy has received the conference's monthly award this season as she and doubles partner Lauren Perl were named the WCC Doubles Team of the Month for March.
Murphy currently ranks 41st in the nation in the latest ITA/Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings and finished the month of April with a perfect 4-0 record at No. 1 singles. Most notably, she defeated Fresno State's Melanie Gloria, who ranked 19th in the nation at the time, in the Toreros' 5-2 loss on April 3.
Since then, Murphy, who has not lost a match since February 5, rides a 14-match winning streak to conclude the regular season with an overall record of 13-2. Most recently, she was named to the All-WCC First Team for her play at the No. 1 spot and led the Torero women to a third place conference finish.
Murphy shares the honor with Pepperdine's Bianca Dulgheru who was named the 2006 WCC Player of the Year.
