Malibu, Calif. - The nationally-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team will look to make its mark at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships as one singles player and two doubles teams were named to the tournament beginning May 23-28 at the Taube Tennis Center at Stanford University. The championships mark the first-ever in NCAA history that both men's and women's teams will compete together at the same time and the same site.
Representing the Waves in the singles field of 64 is sophomore Bianca Dulgheru, who received an automatic bid to the draw. Sophomore Sylvia Kosakowski and senior Merve Asimgil earned an automatic bid to the doubles draw, while Dulgheru and junior Eva Dickes earned an at-large selection.
No. 24 Dulgheru, who capped the regular season by being named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year, owns an 18-3 record at the No. 1 position and is 7-1 against nationally-ranked opponents.
The Wave duo of Asimgil and Kosakowski, who check in at No. 17, are 11-9 overall. Their regular season was highlighted by three wins over Top 25 teams, including a victory over the No. 4 Harvard duo of Melissa Anderson and Elsa O'Riain. Holding an overall record of 18-2 at the No. 2 position, Dickes and Dulgheru are ranked at No. 31. The appearance in the doubles draw marks the first for both Wave tandems.
The Waves are seeded 13th in the team championships and will host the first two rounds May 12-14 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif.
