Perfect Day for Pilot Women's Tennis

CHENEY, Wash. - The University of Portland women's tennis team won five individual matches on the first day of the Red Lion Invitational hosted by Eastern Washington University on Friday, Sept. 22. It was a perfect 5-0 day for the team, and all five Pilots advanced to the Round of 16. The tournament continues Saturday and Sunday.

Junior Christine Feyen, the eighth seed at the tournament, defeated Gonzaga's Kristen MacWilliam 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.

Both Lindsey Griffin, a junior, and sophomore Jenna Tanzer defeated opponents from West Coast Conference rival Gonzaga in straight sets. Griffin defeated Courtney Lau 6-1, 6-3 and Tanzer bested Kendall Bates 6-0, 6-1.

Two other Pilot earned victories on Friday. Sophomore Anna Gullickson def. Amanda Mankovits from Eastern Washington 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 and freshman Audree Jenks def. Danni Paulson of Montana 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3 in her first victory as a Pilot.
