Malibu, Calif. - Pepperdine's top-seeded doubles team of Tania Rice and Anete Bandere advanced to Sunday's semifinal yesterday at the 2006 Cal State Fullerton Fall Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Titan Courts. In singles, Jill Braverman, seeded fourth in the tournament, also advanced to the semifinal.
Braverman, defeated Cal Poly's Steffi Wong in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, and advanced to the semifinals by default over Kanykey Koichumanova of Cal State Northridge. Braverman will meet Long Beach State's Jessica Weeks at 9 a.m.
In doubles play, the Waves' Rice and Bandere easily put away Liege Vieira and Lisa Shih of UC Irvine, 8-0 in the second round and posted an 8-2 victory over Devin Peek of Cal Poly and Katie Barth of UC Irvine to advance to the semifinals. The Wave tandem will meet the USC duo of Amber Harper and Katcha Decker-Sadowski in Sunday's 11:30 a.m. semifinal.
The doubles championship match will be held today at 1 p.m., while the singles championship takes place at noon.
