Senior Pavla Mesterova has received an at-large selection in singles for the 2007 ITA National Indoor Championships hosted by Ohio State November 1-4. This is the second of three national championships for singles and doubles during the 2007-08 collegiate tennis season.
Mesterova's selection comes as a result of her success at the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships this past weekend. A number eight seed in the singles draw going into tournament play, she lived up to her seeding throughout each match. After having a bye in round one, she defeated Holy Bragshaw of San Diego State and then went on to beat Pepperdine's Anamika Bhargava in the round of 32. A victory over Elizabeth Lumpkin of UCLA in a close match moved her to the quarterfinals. Facing the number four seed in the tournament, Nadia Abdala of Arizona State, Mesterova started out strong winning the first set but could not sustain the fine play and eventually lost the next two sets. Due to her success in reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament, Mesterova was put in the running for an at-large consideration for the 2007 ITA Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
The Indoor Championships serves as one of three major national collegiate tennis championships this season. The other two include the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships that was held in early October, which Mesterova also participated in, and the year-end NCAA Championships.
Mesterova has been selected as one of seven singles players that received an at-large bid for the tournament. She is scheduled to play in the first round of singles November 1.
