Malibu, Calif. - Pepperdine's Sylvia Kosakowski posted two straight victories to advance to the quarterfinals at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational on Friday. The No. 2 seed defeated Cal's Bojana Bobusic 6-2, 6-2 and followed with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win over Arizona State's Nadia Abdala.
Kosakowski will face No. 6 seed Marion Ravelojaona of Cal in a 9:30 a.m. match on Saturday.
Freshman Jill Braverman also posted a first round victory, defeating Kara Delicata of Michigan 6-0, 6-3, but fell in the second round to fourth-seeded Sabrina Capannolo of Arizona State 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. She will play in the consolation singles draw and face Brooke Beier of Purdue tomorrow at 11 a.m. Freshman Tania Rice fell in the first round to Kady Pooler of Arizona State, 6-0, 6-0 and will face Fernanda Da Valle of Kansas State in the consolation draw at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow.
In doubles, Kosakowski and Braverman were defeated by Katerina Kudlackova and Olga Klimova of Kansas State, 8-5. Tomorrow, the tandem is set to face Mallory Voelker and Beier of Purdue at 8:30 a.m.
