EUGENE, Ore. --- The University of Portland women's tennis team closed out its fall schedule competing at the Duck Classic hosted by the University of Oregon last weekend.
The doubles team of junior Lindsey Griffin and freshman Audree Jenks fared well, defeating teams from Washington and Eastern Washington to advance to the semifinals before falling 4-8 to Oregon's Monica Hoz de Vila and Ana Cecilia Olivos. Sophomores Anna Gullickson and Jenna Tanzer also competed in the doubles tournament but lost 2-8 in the first round to Oregon's Claudia Hirt and Carmen Seremeta. Boise State's Jana Mackova and Laura Baum took home the doubles crown.
In the singles tournament, Tanzer (pictured) saw the most success, advancing to the quarterfinals after rallying from a one set deficit to defeat Eastern Washington's Kasey Knox 0-6, 6-2, 7-5. Jenks and Griffin also won matches in the singles tournament, with Jenks defeating Eastern Washington's Sayaka Yoshimoto 6-4, 6-1 before falling to Washington's Tara Simpson 1-6, 2-6 and Griffin topping Eastern Washington's Kerstyn Dolack 6-2, 6-3 before dropping to Boise State's Tatiana Ganzha 4-6, 4-6.
Junior Christina Feyen and Gullickson also participated in the flight two singles tournament, with each earning a victory before being eliminated. Feyen bested Eastern Washington's Amanda Mankovits 6-2, 6-3 before falling 5-7, 2-6 to Oregon's Simone Templeton while Gullickson took care of Santa Clara's Meghan Madden 6-1, 6-2 before losing to Hoz de Vila of Oregon 2-6, 1-6.
