SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Christie Dawson, Laurel Abrahamson and Kristen Carlson all recorded double digit kills as the 20th-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team (2-0) continued to roll in the San Diego State Tournament as they swept Cal State Northridge (1-1), 3-0 (30-23, 30-23, 30-22) Saturday afternoon at Peterson Gym.
For the second consecutive match, Dawson led all players with a match-high 18 kills on 32 attempts for a hitting percentage of .469. Abrahamson also had another solid day for the Toreros as she tallied 12 kills on 19 attempts for a hitting percentage of .579. Carlson was the third Torero to record double digit kills as she registered 10 kills on 24 attempts. Jessica Nyrop, playing in her first match of the season, recorded a match-best 35 assists and Kayleen Webster had a match-high 13 digs. As a team USD recorded 49 kills and had an attack percentage of .378.
Cal State Northridge recorded 36 team kills with an attack percentage of .194. Harmony Burdine was the team leader in kills with nine and Angela Hupp led the team in assists with 17.
The Toreros will return to action later this evening as they close out play in the San Diego State Tournament against cross-town rival and host SDSU at 7 p.m.
