(San Francisco) - USF volleyball battled but could not overcome a streaking Oregon squad riding a long winning streak, falling 3-0 (30-22, 32-30, 30-26) in non-conference action Tuesday night at War Memorial Gym. The Dons (5-2) had their streak of 15 straight games won snapped by the Ducks (7-0) who have yet to lose a game this season in 21 tries.
Freshman opposite hitter Sarah Mandala tallied a team-high 11 kills with a pair of blocks while junior middle blocker Carly Babin added 10 kills and four blocks (one solo). Junior outside hitter Addie Webster added nine kills, nine digs and a pair of blocks for the Dons who hit at a .227 clip for the match. Sophomore libero Haley Carroll recorded a team-high 18 digs for San Francisco.
USF just saw far too much of Oregon junior outside hitter Gorana Maricic, who slammed a match-high 23 kills on .488 hitting to go along with seven digs. Freshman outside hitter Heather Myers chipped in 11 kills for the Ducks on .333 hitting while junior libero Katie Swoboda recorded a match-high 20 digs.
Oregon hit at a .294 clip for the match, including a .396 mark in game two, a set where the Dons hit .311. Both teams recorded nine team blocks, but the Ducks won the kills battle 61-47 and posted a 58-57 edge in digs.
USF returns to action when it competes in the 2007 Aggie Invitational, hosted by UC Davis. The Dons open tournament play against Idaho, Friday September 7 at 4:30 PM at The Pavilion. Boise State and the host Aggies round out the tournament field.
